I Only Want a Comfortable Life

I just want to rant. The truth is, deep down, I don’t really want to travel abroad. I just want a comfortable life. If I can get a job that pays me ₦500,000 monthly, honestly, I’m good. I don’t need too much as the 26-year-old young lady that I am. I just want to live comfortably. I’m just a girl, please. But my family keeps pushing me to travel, even when we don’t have too much money on the ground. To them, travelling abroad is one of the greatest achievements, and they see it as a big opportunity. Meanwhile, deep down, that’s not even what I really want. I feel like I’m too lazy for the kind of lifestyle people live abroad. I don’t want to be doing too much, packing shifts, washing old women’s bumbum, and struggling to handle everything myself. I just want to enjoy my life here in Nigeria, earn my ₦500k monthly salary, and be comfortable, abeg. I don’t want an extravagant life. I just want to be able to travel once or twice a year for holidays and enjoy a peaceful, comfortable life with my man here in Nigeria.

That’s honestly what I want. The funny thing is that I can’t even express this to my family because whenever they bring up travelling abroad, they get so excited. They’re always saying things like, “Let’s do this. We can make it happen. We can get you abroad.” And I usually pretend to be excited too, acting like travelling is something I desperately want. Because if I tell them what’s on my mind, they are going to blame me for any misfortune that happens. But the truth is, I’m not even that excited about it. I want to stay in Nigeria. I want to build my life here and enjoy it with the person I love. I don’t know. Maybe people will think I’m not ambitious enough, but I just want a comfortable life. I don’t want to chase a dream that isn’t even mine. I just needed to get this off my chest. Well, don’t advise me because I’m going to travel if the money is ready, but deep down, I don’t rate travelling.
