A Sad Confused Soul

The relationship was already drifting. I could feel it. I could see it. I was paranoid and scared. It was a four-year relationship. I wasn’t a bad person. I never cheated. I randomly gifted him things, cooked for him, and cleaned for him. So, back to the story. One day, he suddenly bought me a gift, a hair and an Apple Watch, something he had never done before. Immediately I saw it, I was happy. You know, the kind of innocent, joyful scream. But then I saw his face, and I could see the disgust and hatred on it, which he quickly hid when he realised I noticed it. I thanked him and proceeded to the room to check my gifts again with so much joy and happiness. Five minutes later, I checked my WhatsApp and saw him post, “All is fair in love and war.” Can someone please tell me what this quote means? A lot has happened in the relationship, so much, and I’m still trying to find answers as to where I went wrong. But this particular one, can someone interpret what it means? Thank you all.
