When NYSC Changes Someone You Love

I never expected that NYSC would be the thing that ends a 3-year relationship. The moment my boyfriend got to camp, everything about him changed, the attention, he ghosts for hours, the effort. Whenever I tried to talk about how we started and what we shared, he said I was being inconsiderate. He kept telling me he wanted to socialise, have fun, and make new friends. I understood, but instead of reassuring me, he made it seem like I had no right to feel anything. He claimed he wasn’t close to girls, but his behaviour didn’t match his words. I started feeling unimportant, like I was forcing myself into someone’s new life. When I expressed how I felt, he brushed me off. Eventually, I told him I couldn’t continue the relationship, and he simply said I should go, that he wasn’t begging me. The painful part was seeing him later on a girl’s TikTok, smiling and holding hands, and she said he’s part of the best things that happened to her in camp.
