Supportive Parents are Truly Underrated

Let’s just say my dad isn’t responsible. The only reason I don’t talk about him much is because we’re not close. The last time I saw him was 15 years ago, and I don’t even think he has a job. He’s more of a useless alcoholic man. My mum is a businesswoman and earns well, but she doesn’t really care about her children. All that matters to her is living life to the fullest, from one party to another, buying expensive aso ebi, makeup, and everything else. If she doesn’t attend a party, then something must be wrong. As for me, I’ve been struggling. I learnt tailoring, which I paid for by myself. Now, I’ve managed to save enough to go back to school, and I’ve been paying my fees and every other expense without support from anyone. Before I started school, I told my mum, and as usual, she reassured me that she would support me. Till date, I’ve paid more than ₦500,000 on my education. The one time I asked her for help,

she told me she wasn’t responsible for my life, that I was old enough and should be supporting her instead. The same goes for my siblings. They are all struggling, yet my mum will buy clothes worth over ₦200,000. She behaves like one big Lagos madam. Our last born doesn’t even have decent clothes to wear. He’s just 10 years old and always looks dirty and unkempt. The last time I was forced to ask her for money, she gave me ₦2,000. I begged her to add another ₦1,000, but she refused, saying she had bills to settle. Whenever I see people with supportive mothers, I can’t help but feel jealous. I’ve been taking care of myself from a very young age. If I want anything, I have to save up for it. As a 24 year old lady, my life feels stuck, and my tailoring business isn’t moving forward either.
