I’m a young man trying my best to build a good life for myself. I work in a bakery, I’m hardworking, and I’m doing everything I can to make ends meet and create a better future. I’ll be 29 in December, and one thing I’ve really struggled with in my life is finding a genuine and peaceful relationship. In my entire life, I’ve only been with two women. My first relationship was a long-distance relationship, and we were together for a long time. However, since December last year, things have become complicated because her parents said their prophet told them that we shouldn’t get married. I tried everything I could to resolve the situation because I genuinely loved her and wanted us to work. She kept assuring me that everything would eventually be sorted out, but whenever I suggested that she visit me or I visit her, there was always one excuse or another. We haven’t physically seen each other this year; we’ve only communicated through video calls. Earlier this year, I met another woman. She is hardworking, and I really admire that about her.
However, I’ve also noticed some things that make me uncomfortable. Sometimes, I feel like she manipulates situations or makes me feel responsible even when she has hurt me, and I usually end up being the one apologizing just to keep the peace. There have also been situations that made me question whether she is genuinely interested in building something serious with me. For example, after we had an issue, she blocked me from seeing her status and then went to Lagos with another girl for a whole week. Maybe there are explanations I don’t know about, but experiences like that have made it difficult for me to trust the relationship. Honestly, I know I may not be able to build a future with either of these women, and I’ve accepted that. I’m not saying this because I hate women or believe women are the problem. I just believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect, loyalty, and honesty, regardless of gender. At this point in my life, what I truly want is simple.
I want a loyal woman who genuinely loves me, someone I can communicate with openly, support, and build a peaceful future with. I want us to have plans, grow together, and face challenges as a team instead of constantly questioning where we stand. Sometimes, after everything I’ve experienced, I wonder if I should just give up on love altogether. But deep down, I still believe that the right person exists. I just hope one day I meet someone who is willing to choose me, be honest with me, and build something real together.
