Hello, guys. So, there was this guy I met online. At first, he was everything: sweet, cute, caring, and soft-spoken—the kind of man who makes you feel like maybe, just maybe, God finally remembered you. We started dating. Early in the relationship, he told me he was going through some things. He asked me to lend him N10k. I told him I was broke. He begged, and I gave him only N7k because I presented myself to him as an independent lady. He appeared to me as a rich guy, but I didn’t know he was just one of these faworaja boys, and that was the first mistake I made. At first, mumu me, in my head, I was even telling myself maybe he was testing me. Later, he asked for money again without returning the N7k I lent him. That was when I said no. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable when a man didn’t know how to be a man. Why are you asking me for money when you have never given me money? He apologised, and somehow, I felt bad. I almost felt guilty for setting a boundary because his apology sounded like he was gaslighting me. But imagine if I didn’t decline.
He would have shamelessly continued to ask me for money. As time went on, he would have started asking for bigger amounts. Ten whole months into the relationship, do you know what he gave me? 3.2GB of data. Fast forward to when we entered this year. His birthday was at the end of January, and mine was in mid-February. Three days before his birthday, he started talking about how he would come to my city to celebrate my birthday, how he would surprise me, and make me feel special. I wasn’t moved because you, who spent N1,000 on me in 10 months, suddenly had money to surprise me? So, on his birthday, which was at the end of January, I wished him well and told him I didn’t prepare anything for him. This guy snubbed my message and didn’t reply until the second day. That was when I realised maybe all that birthday talk was so I would feel pressured to gift him first. After his birthday, we started talking normally. Then, on February 13, he stopped talking to me. No Valentine’s message, no birthday wish on my birthday, nothing. That was when it became clear.
I loved him genuinely, but I’m grateful God revealed his intentions because, at the end of the day, good girl no dey pay. Thank God it was still a long-distance relationship. He had asked us to meet several times, which I kept declining. I don’t know why, but my spirit did not accept him. I was pained, yes, because I loved him. I didn’t lose anything, though, aside from that N7k. Imagine if we had even met and had s€x. I would have been so pained because, what the hell? I feel stup!d because I should have cut him off the moment he asked me for money, but I still wanted to get to know him. Right now, I have already cut him off. I didn’t text him to talk about anything because he is an adult and knows what he is doing. I’m healed now because we don’t take months to heal here.
