Money is Good

Work hard so your children don’t struggle. I have a friend who apparently comes from a rich home, but she didn’t show it. Her parents already planned her entire life. She graduated from secondary school. When Unilag didn’t give her what she wanted, she applied to a private school. After one year, she went abroad. Even when she struggled, she still had a safety net through her parents. When she talks, she has a hustling spirit and thinking. Her own was to make more money, marry money, and create a better life for her children. We used to laugh at her that she loves money too much for someone who’s never felt hungry before. But it makes so much sense now. Money brings more money. Now we are married with children, and I can see the difference. Most of us beginners will only ever have enough to help our children get a good level of education so they can get good jobs. But they will still have to struggle and borrow to kick-start their lives.

For people like her, most of her money is going into investments and savings. Her parents and in-laws sponsored the wedding and their first house. All she spends money on is school fees, household expenses, and vacation. She works, but she can afford to employ people to do most of her household responsibilities for her. We were talking on the phone last week, and she told me that she was tired but still had a lot of work to do at home. I was even pitying her, but she had to put her children to bed, assign duties to her maids, make sure everything is fine at home, and do some light office work. She was even advising me about accounts to open to start saving for university for my children so they can study abroad. Wo, I can’t laugh. I, on the other hand, still have to cook, bathe children, organize their things, and go to bed on time. It’s painful sha but thank God.
