I opted to be the team lead for a club that was just starting some months ago at my university. I was required to select my executive members, which I did from four different faculties (I wanted them to be the ones getting members from their faculties). Fast forward to last month, we registered the club, and activities are actually supposed to kickstart. This is where the problem started. I’ll send messages to the execs group, and just one or two people will respond. I ask them to perform a task, they decide to ghost my message (80% of the time) and respond (this is the remaining 20%). Mind you, this is not the first time I’m leading a team, and I have never had it this bad before. I reached out to them individually several times already to find out if they were having any issues. What I get is always no problem.
The 20% response that I get is after messaging whoever I assigned a task to; a lot of the time, I’ll still call. As it stands now, we’ve not even started planning anything yet. I tried building a relationship outside the club to work with these people; all I hear is fine and all. They’re not even ready to make it seem like it’ll work. Before being added to the team, I asked them severally if they were interested in the team’s work and whether or not they’d have enough time to fully participate in the teamwork; they said yes. Wallahi, I’m tired already; I truly can’t wait for the session to end. Please, y’all should advise me; I hate having to work in a team and see little to no impact being made.
