Rantz family, I’m a lady and I’m 28 years old. I dated this guy for over 1 year and 8 months before we broke up, but ever since (5 months ago) I still think about him sometimes. The first year of our relationship was difficult, I won’t lie, not because we didn’t love each other but because he didn’t have much and I was very broke too. I left my formal job because it was too toxic for me. Fast forward to 10 months down the line, money came in for him (millions of naira). All I received was N50k—that was after 24 hours of intense fight. I didn’t say much; I just felt maybe because he’s been out of money for a while, so there was a lot on his plate to clear. He rented a new place. I took 50% of the whole apartment setup upon myself, even looking for the apartment; y’all that stay in Lagos know how tedious it can be. Three months down the line, he started acting up, saying I spend too much time at his place and all sorts of complaints. Mind you, this person does not give me birthday gifts, Valentine gifts, nor do I get money for Christmas or New Year.
In fact, he doesn’t give me money to make my hair, do my nails, or lashes. He says he doesn’t give women money for such things. The only good thing I got from him was rent money once, and it was like 80%. Last year, I got tired and I left his place after one of our fights and never went back. He didn’t even make efforts to reach me; he tried once, and as I did not respond, he never reached out again. A few months later, I called him, then visited him. We talked and apologized to each other. Then, a few days later, he changed. When I visited him again to know what was going on, he embarrassed me in front of his neighbor and friends. I left and promised myself never to go back again. I’m with someone else now, and I can say he’s better than my ex, but for some reason, I still think about my ex and blame myself for walking out of the relationship. Guys, I need your advice.
