My boyfriend sent me gifts through a Bolt dispatch rider. I was in the salon when the rider arrived, so I asked him to bring it to me at the salon. On receiving the packages, the rider won’t let me go because it was a card trip, which he canceled on his way and sent his account number to my boyfriend to send him cash instead. My boyfriend refused to pay the cash because he was already debited for the card trip. I wanted to pay the rider, but he refused too, saying I mustn’t give him any money because that would be a double payment. The rider insisted that he would take my gifts back if he didn’t get paid. My boyfriend told him to return the gifts to him if he won’t let me go. This turned into a heated argument in the salon, and people were watching. I was so embarrassed. The fee was just around N10k, and we both can afford 10 times that if we wanted, but my boyfriend kept insisting he wouldn’t pay double, and I must not pay too.
Seeing the whole embarrassment, I secretly gave 5k to the rider and told him his balance would be paid if Bolt reversed the card payment. Looking at the gifts now, and they have lost value in my eyes because I had to fight and be embarrassed for it. I haven’t gotten over the fact that my boyfriend could be willing to allow a rider to take gifts he got me back just so he could prove a point. He saw me being embarrassed and insisted that N10k was more important than me receiving his gifts. All the excitement of anticipation I had when he called to say a rider was coming to make delivery just died, and I feel so sad for getting a gift with so much stress. I’ve been thinking if this is a red flag I should not ignore.
