Hi guys, can we all talk about how our mothers raise we the girls as the perfect wife materials but not the boy child as the perfect husband materials? I am an 18-year-old who got admission into the university last year. Before I gained admission, I used to do literally everything in the house (I have two brothers, one older and one younger)—from washing dishes to washing the bathrooms, even their personal bathrooms. Literally everything. I would go to my mum’s shop as early as 6 am and come back at 9 pm at most. I really didn’t see anything wrong with doing them at that time. Fast forward to when I got admission. I went to school for the first time, and when I came back, the house looked nothing like I left it. Everywhere stank, the bathrooms looked like a public toilet, dirt was in every corner of the house, and it just looked like people weren’t living there. My brothers couldn’t do anything; they just lived off the dirt without raising a finger. I complained to my mum (she’s a single mother, my dad is late), and she told me they are just boys and I should leave them. That was when I realized she had always babied my brothers, always drilling it in my head that it’s my job to do the housework and clean up after them.
Now, my elder brother is a messed-up excuse of a man, a graduate, and a 22-year-old still in his mother’s house, feeding off her, refusing to work, and just laying around playing video games all day. Not to talk of my little brother, who I can’t even talk to, because my mum has brought me so down to his level that he doesn’t give me that respect. Anyway, I did clean up the house before going back to school. Now I am back again to the same thing, only this time I have made it my goal not to touch anything until I go back to school, leaving everything as it is. But my mum has made it seem like I am in the wrong. Please, I need some advice on how to juggle this. It’s not that I can’t clean, it’s just the fact that I am cleaning up after two fully grown men. My younger brother is 14, but he has the size of a 23-year-old. That’s to say, my brothers are huge in size.
