I have two siblings above 30 who are still unmarried. Suitors have always been coming, but they’re not what my dad wants. He wants someone from his tribe, and his only regret in life is not moving us close to our hometown while we were young. Just last month, my elder sister introduced someone to us as her fiancé, and we were all excited about it, but she told us not to tell anyone because she hadn’t told my dad. He called me today, speaking strongly about her and how she keeps bringing people from the one tribe he has always warned us about. His fear is that people from Iboland only marry outsiders for children or money ritual, then use them and move on to marry women from their tribe based on all he’s witnessed as a pastor. This issue has dragged on for years, family has tried to intervene, but he won’t budge. Marrying without his blessings is not an option because he singlehandedly raised us and sacrificed a lot for us. We can’t forsake him now that he’s retired. I’m so confused, what do we do?
