I’m 23, a graduate, and single-handedly raised by a single mum. My boyfriend of 3 years and I are planning to get married this year. I really do not know how to share a story, but I need advice please. My father is a deadbeat. The last time I saw this man was 13 years ago, and trust me when I say this man doesn’t know how me and my sister feed or grow till date. I have a 19-year-old younger sister too. But my boyfriend is insisting that my dad must be present as the dad, else his own dad will not allow us to get married. What pains me is his reply when I asked why, which is that his father will believe that I might give our daughter’s hand in marriage too if perhaps our marriage didn’t work out. Guys, what’s your advice on this? Note that my mum said she’s never going to sit with my father as parent of the bride. She’ll rather rent a father for me if men have finished in her family.
