I met a guy on IG around June this year, and we hit it off immediately because we vibed so well. I’m a real lover girl, but along the line, I felt like I was putting in all the energy while he withdrew. After several heartaches from him leaving me on read for hours, I cut him off and stopped texting. Four or five days later, he texted me on iMessage, saying he had been with his mom and didn’t have his phone. I forgave him, and we started again.
Now, since June, I’ve never asked him for anything because I didn’t want to seem too forward. I had my brother and my little business taking care of most things. He never offered anything either. Recently, I had some financial issues and, with encouragement from a male friend, decided to ask for help. I wrote a long note explaining that I needed his support because my birthday is in two weeks, and I don’t have enough money.
He ghosted me for 15 hours and then replied with, “Why can’t you ask your mom?” I was shocked. He could have responded differently, even if he didn’t want to help. Might I add, he’s a very rich Lagos boy. His jewelry collection alone is worth N45–N50 million, and he had just made an expensive purchase the day I asked. Was it too soon to ask for help? Or does his response mean something deeper? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
