I have been with my boyfriend for more than two years, and he has never done anything romantic for me. I’ve always been the one providing for myself and taking care of my needs, and I’ve never complained. Sometimes, I even gift him. We’ve celebrated three Valentine’s Days together, and he didn’t give me anything, even though I gifted him once. He always says he’s “not used to it.” I’m very hardworking, and he always commends my efforts, but he’s not as supportive as he should be. I paid my way through school, and he has never given me a penny to help. Even if I ask, he says he doesn’t have much. Besides that, he’s always borrowing money from me.
He still owes me about N100k, and I’ve stopped expecting him to pay it back. He always makes plans when he’s broke, but once he has money, the plans change. Now he’s talking about marriage, but I don’t think I can spend my life with someone like this. He wouldn’t even remember my birthday without me reminding him, and he only supports me verbally. We’re supposed to support each other, but he only comes to me for help. I’ve talked to him about this countless times, but nothing changes. Is it enough reason to break up with him? I don’t want to lead him on with talk of marriage if I feel this way.
