I got married to my husband in 2023. He has a good career that will make us extremely rich when he gets to the peak of it. I’m a fashion designer. I believe in helping a man when he’s down because he will surely reciprocate. When we did our wedding, most of the responsibilities were on me, I didn’t mind because I was marrying the love of my life and age was no longer on my side. The wedding was very low budget, we had to share prawn crackers as small chops and most people didn’t even see food because it was mostly me who did everything. So, fast forward to now, my husband has been cheating on me with a bunch of small girls and I’m still the one bearing most of the cost of running the house. Whenever the month ends, it doesn’t even make any difference. We were able to make do initially with the money we got from the augmented with my fashion designing and very minimal input from him. He doesn’t act like the man of the house but wants to be respected as such. Whenever we’re out, he’ll be asking me to take anything I want to give the impression that he’s a provider meanwhile, na my money he dey use take me out. He likes to be respected but has no self-respect.
On our wedding day, his family was just shouting at him that what sort of nonsense wedding is this. This is something he used to do with his exes. He confided in me one time that one of his exes messaged his mom to tell her that he was owing money one time and another one did the same thing to him. He doesn’t act like a man and when I call him out, he’ll say I paid his groom price and that I should deal with it. It’s so bad, even our neighbours ask if he doesn’t take care of me and he has a good job. We went to get something from Chicken Republic one time and we had to stay in the car till his ex who had embarrassed him left because he didn’t want her to see him. My advice to women is no matter how old you feel, don’t settle.
