I have a boyfriend I’ve been dating for quite a while. He’s caring and all of that lovey-dovey stuff, which I’m not really into. I’m trying to be like that as well because I feel that’s how he is. He complains about how boring and unromantic I am. He wants me to change my taste in music because I listen to Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Lil Thay, The Weekend, and other foreign singers. I love slow music as well, like Adele’s songs. He wants me to start listening to Nigerian music like Seyi Vibes, Zino, Balloranking, etc. I’m trying to change that.
I saw a short music clip on TikTok, and I’ve been playing these two songs on repeat, but now he said I’m listening to “trenches” songs, asking me if I was trying to become a “trenches” girl. I don’t really remember the names of the songs. One is something like “yepa yepo,” and the other is a trending song on TikTok, “Give the barber chair” or something. The songs were really funny when I first listened to them; they made me laugh for more than two minutes, I left them on repeat because they made me laugh, and I wanted to keep listening to them. I don’t know why he’s angry I’m listening to such songs. Should I apologize for listening to these songs? Is it that bad?
