I’m a software engineer, and before we met, I had been struggling for almost two years to land a better-paying job. As of May 2024, I was stuck at ₦410k per month with no progress. When we got together, we just clicked. She’s also in tech—a PM. Naturally, we talked about everything, including my job struggles. One day, while discussing how I had been praying for a job that could relocate me out of Nigeria, she casually said, “Don’t worry, it will happen within a year.” I laughed and shouted, “Amen.” But she literally took it personally. She was always sending me job openings, making sure I was applying, and even helping with applications because my job was so demanding. Within three months of our relationship, I got three job offers, all paying over ₦1.3 million with other benefits. After being stuck in the same frustrating company for over three years, it felt unreal.
One of the offers was from a company I couldn’t even remember applying to. Then, in September 2024, a Canadian company I had applied to reached out. After five weeks of intense interviews, they gave me an offer—but with a three-month paid probation. If I performed well, they would continue with me and start my relocation process. I passed, and now my LMIA processing just started. The way my life and finances changed within a year still feels like a dream. On Valentine’s Day, I asked her if she’d be open to us getting married ASAP, but she said we hadn’t even been together for a full year yet. Funny enough, my Canadian company offers spousal relocation support. One thing’s for sure—I must marry my girl before I leave. Plus or minus, I should be able to travel by June/July. I can’t stay abroad without her for even six months. Honestly, since I met her, everything has just been better. I don’t know if she’s my good luck charm or if it’s just fate, but either way, I’m grateful.
