My boyfriend broke up with me because I refused to get pregnant before getting married. We dated for three years, and all through, I had been faithful. He was my first-ever relationship and the first man I have ever known. Through the relationship, we always used protection, but on my safe days, we didn’t, and I made sure I was careful. I came from a broken home, and ever since I was little, I promised myself not to make the same mistake my mum made. I promised myself to get married in the right way and pattern, to a man whom I love and cherish and who would also love me in return. I’m working and earning enough, and I also started a business of my own. This was his statement, ‘Get pregnant for me, and I will propose to you.’ This generation has changed everything; now most engagements are just based on pregnancies. I agreed to the breakup because I knew deep down he just wanted a baby for now and wasn’t really ready to settle down, and I knew through a conversation he was having with his friends at home while I was making food when I came over for the weekend. It is well, that’s all I can say, and move on with my life. I just wanted to rant out my emotions.
