I don’t really have a story to share, but I just want to give some advice to the girls out there. Please, please, have something going on for yourself. Even Davido said it: “Whatever you do, hope say you dey make raba (mone?” I’m not super wealthy, but the 2.5-3 million naira in my account (I’m a hair vendor and wig tools seller) has given me the power to filter men. I read a story here about a guy who was with a girl and also hitting on her 18-year-old sister. Imagine—over N20k! When you earn money, you attract men on your level. Those who ask for N10k or N20k just become a turn-off. Men can’t treat you anyhow because you’re stable with or without them.
There was a guy I was talking to, and when he started acting funny, I dropped him immediately. He was so surprised and started calling, saying I’d forgotten him. If I wasn’t doing anything, I would have been begging him, simply because he was spending on me. There’s a saying that you don’t carry a man on your head; he’s just on your shoulder. If he doesn’t treat you right, shake him off and move on. Many girls put so much energy into love, and if they used that energy to learn a skill, they’d be repairing trailers by now. Ladies, get something going for yourself.
If you depend on a man, he’ll look down on you and think, “Where’s she going? She’ll be back begging for money in a week.” Invest in yourself, my darlings. Always remember that you are the prize. The Bible says, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing,” not he who finds a man. Don’t let any man treat you like trash. Love you!
