I need your advice my Rantandtalkz family. I have a boyfriend who I’ve been dating for a year and 5 months now. I’m 22 years old and a final-year student. I think my boyfriend is an enemy of progress who doesn’t want me to succeed in life. He has a lot of red flags which I ignore. We met in November 2022; I told him I was a baker, and he also said he was a baker as well. Fast forward to Feb 2023; he bought an oven, and I was so happy, thinking he bought it to support my business because I told him that I couldn’t bake without an oven. As a student baker, the next session, I resumed with some cake tools, ingredients, fliers, and banners to promote my business. I noticed my boyfriend wasn’t happy about it, but I ignored him. Whenever I get an order, he gets angry and says I shouldn’t be collecting orders this late and whatever, but I always ignore him.
I’d have to beg him to repost my fliers on his WhatsApp because he knows a lot of people than me, but he’ll always post them without a caption. Whenever I go home for a break, he’ll tell me he got some orders, which I would have done if I was around, but since I’m not around, he would do it himself. By the way, the cakes he bakes look like shit. The only time he gave me an order was from two different people, but he gave money for only one of them, saying he used the other money to pay a lady who gave him money when I was away but fell ill and didn’t need the cake anyway, so he refunded her with the cake money. I told him no problem, I’ll make the cake, but he would pay me for workmanship. Then he took offense, but I didn’t budge till he paid. I told him I would love to serve at Abuja because I have siblings there, but he said no, I should serve where he is based.
I told him that I really have a passion for baking and would love to open a cake shop someday, but he said no, he’d rather open a provision store. He has made me lose passion for the job. I don’t even post my business anymore. I’m just depressed; I have no support from anyone, and I hate to ask for anything. That’s why I work so hard to make ends meet for myself. He recently gave me his POS to work for him, which I do. It’s his money, so everything goes to his account, and anytime I ask him for money, he always says he is broke, but he bought a new phone for himself last week. I’ve never gone through his phone, but I sha feel he is cheating on me, but I don’t really care because he’s not all that matters. I just want to graduate first, I go show am pepper.
