I’m 23 years old and from Anambra State. My parents have refused to consent to my relationship. My boyfriend and I have been dating for over a year now, and we feel very comfortable with each other. We love ourselves so much, it’s more like we are best friends. His family likes me a lot, especially his mum, but my parents are saying no to us having a future together all because he’s from Imo States. They gave reasons why I couldn’t marry someone from that state, but I don’t understand why they refuse to see that everyone has a different personality. I don’t know what else to do about this.
I have tried to make them see reasons with me but to no avail. My boyfriend and his family are already tired of the whole thing because, as much as they like me, they feel they have been insulted too much. They don’t want me to go against my parents. My boyfriend, on the other hand, wants to end the relationship because he’s really ready to settle down. Please, I need your advice on what to do. I can’t lose him. I’m so sad. I love him so much, but I still don’t want to disrespect my parents. I just want everything to go as it’s meant to. I need that love, blessings, and support from both families.
