My father abandoned my mother, my siblings, and me when I was a toddler and married his second wife. He was never in our life even when we grew up a little and tried to get close to him. There were signs he had moved on and focused on his second family, as he still wasn’t interested in our well-being, nor did he contribute a dime to whatever concerns us, so we let him be. We are all grown now, graduated, and some of my older siblings are married. We call my father whenever it’s time for the bride price, and he comes to take the bride price. Usually, after each wedding, we all mind our businesses, and that ends communication. He lived in different states all through. Now, he has retired back to the village and aged, some of the children from his second family are even married. I am engaged now, and my fiance insisted I build communication with him as he believes a father’s blessing is important, even though I am very sure he will still collect the bride price when it’s time.
I started calling him once a week now for less than two months, and he’s telling me how hungry he is and asking me to send money to him. This is a man who recently legalized his marriage to his second wife, and from my calculations, he said he’s been starving since after the wedding. The second wife doesn’t stay with him in the village. I have the money to send, but I don’t know how I’m supposed to send someone who hasn’t even shown any sign of remorse since we started talking. He talks to me normally like nothing happened. I mean, a dime from him hasn’t been invested in our growth, and I’m even scared that my money will be used for something negative against me as I don’t even know the kind of man he is. What do I do guys? I need advice.
