My husband and I are currently at a crossroads, and we would really appreciate sincere advice from people who have experience with studying abroad, relocation, or immigration. My husband has applied for a Canadian visa twice, but unfortunately, both applications were refused. This was before our wedding. After we got married, he tried applying for a master’s degree in Canada so we could relocate together, but unfortunately, he wasn’t offered admission. At this point, my husband is worried, frustrated, and confused because he has spent a lot of money on these applications, yet things haven’t worked out as we hoped. One of his biggest concerns is that he doesn’t want to relocate without me. However, I have told him that I don’t mind if he travels first while I stay back to focus on my own hustle, perhaps by starting a food business, until I can join him later. Recently, his uncle suggested another option: applying for an Italian tourist visa and seeking asylum after arriving in Italy.
According to his uncle, he would only pay ₦8.5 million after the visa is approved. However, I am very uncomfortable with this option because I feel it is risky. What if things don’t go according to plan? We could end up spending such a huge amount of money without getting the outcome we expect. I suggested that instead of taking that risk, we consider applying for Russian study visas together. From our estimates, it could cost us around ₦8 million to ₦10 million for both of us. However, we are still unsure whether this is the best decision, especially considering the financial commitment involved and the uncertainty surrounding our future. Meanwhile, his Canadian agent has advised him to consider applying for a postgraduate diploma instead of a master’s degree. The idea is for him to travel alone first. Although the agent seems knowledgeable and experienced, my husband is still afraid of taking another chance on Canada because of his previous refusals and the uncertainty of getting a visa.
For context, my husband graduated with a 2.2 (Lower Second Class), and we understand that this may affect some of his admission options. Honestly, we are tired of going back and forth, spending money, and not knowing which direction to take. We want to make a decision that will give us a better chance of building a future together without putting ourselves under unnecessary financial pressure. Please, we need your honest advice on the following: 1. Which countries can we realistically consider for studying and relocating together as a married couple without spending too much money? 2. Is Russia a good option for us, considering the cost, opportunities for work, and our long-term plans? 3. Do you think he should try Canada again through a postgraduate diploma, even if it means travelling alone? 4. What do you think about the Italian tourist visa and asylum option? Is it worth the risk? 5. Considering his academic qualifications and our financial situation, what would you honestly advise us to do?
Our ultimate goal is to build a better future, but we also want to make a wise decision that won’t leave us financially stranded. Please, if you have genuine experience with any of these countries or know of a better option for us, kindly share your advice. We would be very grateful. We need practical suggestions, not just encouragement. Thank you.
