I want your honest opinion about something that happened to me. I met a guy on Snapchat who asked me to come and see him on Friday. Before I came, he asked what I wanted, and I told him N500k. Later, he said he couldn’t afford that and reduced it to N150k, which I agreed to. When I got there, he told me he didn’t have enough money in his account but that he had already transferred the N150k. I waited for about two hours but didn’t receive any alert. To check if it was my bank delaying it, I sent just N100 from my OPay to my GTB account and got it immediately. That’s when I realised he hadn’t sent anything at all. He even created a plan, pretending the money was on its way and telling me exactly when it would leave his account, but I’m not foolish or illiterate; I could tell he was lying. Meanwhile, we had s€x. The next day, I went back to the hotel to tell him I still hadn’t received the money. He then said I should wait until 6 or 7 p.m. because he didn’t have naira in his account. I waited, but nothing came. When I said I wanted to go home and asked for my money, he said he only had N50k and would send the rest later.
I didn’t trust him, so I tried to hold one of his belongings until he paid me. He collected his power bank from me, so I picked up his small Wi-Fi device instead. He chased me, we struggled over it, and during the fight, he damaged my phone badly. He even pressed my neck. Because my phone was badly damaged, I went back into the room, took one of his other phones, and left the hotel with it. Mind you, I have eyewitnesses. They didn’t even complain or say anything when they saw that I carried his phone. One of the receptionists said the guy is a very troublesome person. I later spent N100,000 to repair my phone, using the N50k he gave me, then I added N50k. Now, I still have his phone, but it’s locked, and I’ve already fixed my own phone. Right now, I feel angry, betrayed, frustrated, and cheated because he was trying to play smart with me. I’m trying to decide what the best thing to do is in this situation. I’m thinking about whether I should give him back his phone, keep it, or report the matter to the police. Please, what are your opinions?
