I don’t even know how to start. I’ve been searching for an apartment for more than six months, which I didn’t get. I later found one. What they told me was that the guy was trying to move out and he was trying to sell his properties. Me, as a fresher, I was like that’s perfect, and it would be easier and cheaper for me. I got there, paid, and everything. It was after payment that I discovered it was a two bed, and he was trying to give out the other side. Mind you, there is nothing connecting us, just a door, which I’ve blocked, so I felt it wasn’t a big deal. After paying, that’s when I found out this guy is a big time crook. He dey owe NEPA close to N300k for prepaid, and he was trying to make me pay for all that. I asked about all these before paying o. He said N5k every week. Now NEPA are charging close to N30k every month for the clearance of their debt, and baba think say I be JJC. He was trying to make me pay, deceiving me that it’s how they do it. I had to ask around, because where I’m coming from we also use prepaid, and I’ve not seen something like this before. I can recharge as low as N1k, but this one they ain’t allowing me pay more than the N25k plus debt on it. Security fee is N5k monthly.
Baba told me it was N10k and we would share it. They also pack toilet. Bill per person is N8k, he told me N18k, and I no follow them use the toilet before e full o. Everything I bought from him are condemned. Imagine I bought a fridge for over N120k only to find out the fridge is not even working. What they are pricing that fridge from me now is N30k. I’ve paid this guy on several occasions to fix one or two things in that house that he didn’t. I had to call someone else and repay. The lie in this boy mouth. Even the AC self I bought for N250k from him is old, and I’ve not even been here for more than three months and the AC has started leaking water. Another issue is I paid someone to come fix the AC. This useless man broke my TV I bought for over N400k, and he’s denying it. Na person introduce me to am, and this fool said he doesn’t know where the man lives. We don dey find this one since now. The matter now is I’ve not even lived here for up to three months, and the issues I’ve been facing and money I’ve been wasting. The issue now is the other half of this guy’s place. I feel he has rented it out to some new guys. Mind you, this guy collected N1.3m from me, and he has the other room and parlour.
The kitchen is on my side, but he charged N150k for it, saying that’s not the house kitchen, that they fixed that one, that a lady was in my space before so she was the one that did all of that. People for the compound don tell me say this is risky. I should pray the landlord doesn’t find out. It was even going to be easy if he was still staying in the apartment, but he gave it out already and I’m just getting to know. Not sure yet, but I just feel like it, because I’m already seeing some new guys there already, and I’ve not seen him for some weeks now. I’m sure the house rent no pass N1.5m for the two bed, and he collected N1.3m from me for my side alone, and I’m at risk as it is now. All this is because of Lagos landlords. I don’t know what it is with them and single ladies. I’ve been looking for a place close to a year now, and every time I end up not getting it because I’m a lady. One landlord even sat me down and there was nothing this man did not ask me. Where I work, what I do, if I’m capable of paying. I can even pay N3m in two years as long as it’s a good space and what I want. If I can’t, I won’t take the house. After everything, he came to tell me to find one elder man from my house with a good and verified job that will stand for me.
You can imagine. So please don’t blame me for settling for this, because I tried. Imagine a girl of 25 years old and I can’t get a space for myself without a man. I don’t even know what to do. I’m actually depressed as it is. I’ve spent a lot. This is not even half of what that guy has done. If I begin to talk, una go read page tire till the next day. My TV is gone, AC is not working, even the fan and fridge are useless and can only be sold as condemned iron. Funny how I tested all these before paying for them. I don carry the boy go police. They charged me N70k to open a case. I even had to beg before they accepted N30k. Still nothing is being done. I don hear say Yoruba men can’t be trusted with business. Na now I confirm am. Very manipulative human being, and he dey lie. Imagine, and he get two kids. Even compound people no like am, because he’s a very dirty and lousy person. What have I gotten myself into? I will not say I was desperate, but I felt I got lucky with this whole landlord thing as a single lady, because I wasn’t asked, and he was even happy I was a lady when the agent brought me. What do I do? I don do everything for this house. I’ve spent to fix it to my taste. I just started staying ending November, to realise this guy is a big thief. I can’t move out now.
