I am 22, and I’m incredibly confused about what to do next. The Yabatech HND form is out, but I’m considering going to Laspotech now that it has become a university. On one hand, my parents live in Ikorodu, not in a rented apartment. I don’t want to stay with them because I won’t be free, and if I decide to rent in Ikorodu, I can find houses near First Gate that cost around N400k or N300k upfront, with an annual rent of about 250k. Even a room with a parlour might go for around N600k. On the other hand, housing around the Yabatech area is very expensive. For example, a self-contained roomcosts up to N800k, with an annual rent of about N500k. Moreover, if I stay at Laspotech, it won’t be easy for me to flex or enjoy nightlife, like going to the Island or clubbing at midnight. I’ll miss going to clubs, and I’ll also miss my roommates in my hostel—I hope they won’t be angry that I am leaving them.
Staying in Ikorodu has its advantages: I can continue my business without interruption, and my parents will be happy. The downside is, I might end up only visiting home on weekends because the rental costs are lower here. Also, since my business requires a separate space for both a room and a parlour, I’d need a larger budget (about N1.2 million) near Yabatech, which is far less feasible than the Ikorodu option (IKD can be N600k). The only remaining concern is that if I start living in Ikorodu, I don’t want to end up associating with IKD boys—I wouldn’t even recommend them to my enemy. So now, if I stay in Ikorodu, is this how I’ll miss going out at midnight?
