Back in uni, I had two roommates—let’s call them A and J. I was closer to A than J because I knew her first. In our final year, we decided to give each other memorable birthday gifts, like cash or anything thoughtful. A’s birthday came first, and we gifted her. J’s birthday came next, and we did the same. Mine was last, and they promised to give me my gift soon, even though it would be after my birthday. I didn’t mind because I had already bought food and drinks for a small celebration with them and three other friends, which I paid for myself. Fast forward to two months later—nothing. Three months—still nothing. Eventually, we graduated, and I never got the promised gift. At first, I felt disappointed. Is this really friendship?
We lived in the same room, went to the market together, and even shopped from people selling in the hostel during that time. Yet, they kept promising to get my birthday gift but never did. I wasn’t too surprised about J because it was obvious she found it hard to spend on others but loved when others spent on her. However, with A, I was disappointed. I thought she could have given me a gift on her own if J wasn’t ready to contribute. We were so close that I was even prepared to buy her a gift myself in case J gave excuses when it was her turn. What do you guys think, Rantz fam?
