“If my wife cannot come, I’m not going.” I read this on Twitter a few years back, and I never understood what it truly entails until I got married. While we were courting, this man would never caution any of his friends about his relationship, regardless of what they said, either as a joke or otherwise. I was blinded by the gifts and the soft life because I grew up really rough, so don’t blame me.
I kept telling myself, “They’re just his friends; they won’t be living with us.” I should have taken it as a red flag because I forgot they were always going to be in his life. Now that we’re married, they always have an opinion about my marriage. I don’t know if their wives are going through this too, but my husband has no boundaries. He has never stood up for me. Sometimes, I’m speechless at how comfortable they are making certain comments about me, and he won’t even flinch.
My advice to ladies: after looking for kindness, also find a man who will always stand up for you, regardless of the situation. Such a man is a blessing; do not overlook it. I think women wrap themselves around men too much, while men will always choose each other. But if you’re lucky to find one who will stand up for you, please go for it.
