Guys, someone just scammed me out of N10k recently. I met this guy here on IG. He messaged me with the craziest pickup line. Usually, I don’t like chatting on IG, but I found his words funny and sweet, so I replied, and we just clicked. He asked for my WhatsApp contact, which made sense since neither of us was very active here. Every morning, he’d send a sweet good morning message. He didn’t pressure me to meet up, even though he said he lived in Asaba. Eventually, I stopped talking to him, and he did too. A couple of weeks later, he started guilt-tripping me, saying he hadn’t heard from me in a while and that I hadn’t even checked on him. He went further to say he’d been in EFCC custody, blah blah blah, so I felt bad and apologized. After that, the love bombing resumed. Mind you, I never agreed to date him; I told him I wanted to get to know him first.
We never spoke on the phone except once on a video call that lasted a few seconds before he texted, saying he had to fix his router. Anyway, here’s the long story short. One afternoon, he texted that he was going to pick up a waybill, then messaged frantically that he was in trouble. He claimed the police stopped him because his driver’s license was expired, and they were demanding N75k, which he negotiated down to N50k. He said he had N35k in his OPay account but needed N15k more to avoid being taken to the station. He literally sent me a picture of a policeman checking his papers! He mentioned he’d usually ask his neighbor for help, but they weren’t available. A part of me was skeptical, but another part of me felt bad for him.
I told him I could only spare N5k, but he insisted it wasn’t enough and even suggested I borrow from my friends. Eventually, he claimed he got N5k from someone else but still needed N10k. Against my better judgment, I sent it. The account name he gave me was “Basil Berry Osakuni,” even though he told me his name was Jayden. After that, he completely disappeared. He ignored my calls and texts, even after I tried checking in. The next morning, he answered my call, said, “You’ll see,” and then blocked me everywhere. Guys, let’s be careful. That N10k could have gone to peppered chicken with cold exotic juice. I’m just praying that I’ll develop a stronger resolve to say “NO” firmly, no matter how much someone begs.
