My family has always been struggling. My younger brother is in school, and my dad doesn’t even have money for his fees or for feeding. My mom only does petty trading. It was this frustration that pushed my brother into doing yahoo. His friends introduced him to it. I wasn’t in support of it, but my objections died down when he started supporting the family. When I was very broke in school and needed money for my project, he was the one who gave me money, and I had no choice but to accept it. Now, everyone supports him, including my parents. He goes from using one black soap to another, introduced to him by an Alfa his friend recommended.
Recently, my brother has been very broke. I work in a supermarket and use my earnings to support myself and him. Today, he went back to his Alfa in frustration, and he came back with what they call gbere (incisions)—some kind of tribal mark—around his wrist. Guys, please help me. I don’t know the meaning of what he did, and now I’m even scared for his life. He’s really going over the edge. Please, what can I do, and what are the implications of what he did to himself?
