Human beings are really strange. A lot of people will say, “Don’t bite more than you can chew,” or “Cut your coat according to your size,” or “Don’t do what is beyond your means,” but then those same people will laugh at you for buying what you can afford. The reason I’m ranting about this is that I heard a “friend” of mine put me down just because I can’t afford her lifestyle. This friend of mine owns a lot of wigs and nice bags and stuff. She can afford them, and that’s good for her. But we were hanging out at her house, and I overheard her telling her boyfriend that she doesn’t really like to go out with me because it’s either I’m wearing weaves or doing up-gels. She said I don’t own a single wig and I refuse to borrow hers.
I don’t even know why they were talking about me. I don’t know! She doesn’t know I heard her, but I did. I’ve never been the kind of person to pretend not to like nice stuff just because I can’t afford it. I like nice stuff—nice wigs, nice clothes, and nice bags—but until I start making good money, I can’t start buying more than I can afford. I’m broke, yes, but isn’t that better than owing a whole lot of people just because I want to live up to a particular lifestyle? I’m so pissed at my friend. I didn’t even sleep over that day, even though I had planned to. I just went back to my house, and I haven’t talked to her since that day.
