My Friends Think I’m Rich

My friends think I’m rich, and I honestly don’t know where they got that idea. My parents are regular middle-class people, if not upper-lower class. They have one car, a 2004 Lexus, and we live in a regular, average bungalow. I’ve never said I have rich parents or anything like that. I always do maintenance (nails, lashes, and hair) and dress well, even though some of my clothes are thrifted, which I don’t even hide. I’ll openly tell you I got a cloth for ₦500. If anything, I’m actually the brokest in my friend group. All my friends are working except me because I’ve experienced many failed businesses, so I decided to take a break.

We’re all university students (200 level). My boyfriend funds most of my lifestyle, not my parents, and I don’t even hide that too. Sometimes they want me to pay for their stuff, which is annoying. Of course, I decline. I also spend a lot because of what my boyfriend gives me, and maybe that’s why. I’ve heard my friends say many times, “You’re lucky your parents are rich; you don’t really need to work,” and I was shocked. I’ve corrected them many times that they’re not. At this point, it’s bothering me, so I just say “Amen” when they make comments like that.
