I’m an accounting student in 300 level. A former acquaintance of my dad offered to sponsor me through the university since my dad has been retired for a while and was having difficulty providing for our family. I have two younger siblings in secondary school. And so far, he has helped me a whole lot. He has been paying my school fees, hostel fees, and sometimes textbooks as well. I had a small business that I was managing, but that ended up going sideways and messed with my health, so I stopped. Now, my sponsor said that due to some personal reasons, he won’t be able to help out anymore.
I am so heartbroken. My dad says there’s nothing he can do about it. I understand that the country is tough and it’s probably hard on him, especially since the sudden hike in the prices of everything, including school fees (went from N45k to N80k). I’m trying my best to see if I can go back to the business I was doing before, but I’ll be kidding myself if I believe it will take me anywhere. I’m really, truly grateful that I even had a sponsor that carried me through these years, but I’m upset that he pulled out. I’m allowed to be upset, right?
