Avoid The Police As Much As You Can

This is my first time ranting here. Today, I want to share a distressing experience I encountered with the Nigerian Police, specifically the Port Harcourt Police, in October this year. While my younger brother and I were heading to buy dinner, we were abruptly stopped by police officers who demanded we enter their vehicle, a Toyota Camry. Upon inquiry about the reason for the stop, the officers failed to provide a valid explanation and instead resorted to forcing us into the vehicle.

I noticed two of these men covered their faces—crazy. Regrettably, the situation escalated, and we were subjected to physical a$$ault by the officers, till I lost consciousness. Fortunately, some people in the community, including people from a nearby church ensured I received prompt medical attention at a hospital; otherwise, I would have been dead, fr. In a recent incident, I was threatened by another police officer who demanded that I surrender my phone.

When I refused, the officer threatened to use lethal force—Oga said he would shoot me. Lol. See, I do not even have any tattoos or piercings, which could have prompted such treatment. So, it’s not a case of profiling based on appearance, if that’s what y’all are thinking. As a concerned citizen, I hope sharing this rant will contribute to raising awareness about the need for police reform and accountability in Nigeria because, omo, I no understand again. I now prefer thugs to police, lol. Y’all stay safe, though—these folks are super hungry.
